We traveled to Tanzania in September 2011 to climb Kilimanjaro (19,340'). This blog tracks the planning and training process for the trek and shares some thoughts on the adventure. It is a definite bucket list adventure. If you have ever dreamed of climing Kilimanjaro, strap on your pack and get planning. You won't regret it.

Travel Days
It took us two days to get to Africa from Salt Lake City. Despite a delay out of Detroit, we managed to make it to Amsterdam on time. Unfortunately, our flight from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro was delayed as well. Weary eyed, but feeling pretty good, we arrived in Tanzania just after 10pm. The flights were long, but the entire ordeal was not as bad as I thought it would be. Team Kilimanjaro was at the airport waiting for us. After collecting everyone's luggage and organizing the three groups of climbers arriving that night, we headed off into the darkness in a safari type van to find our hotel. By midnight we were checked in to the Kibo Palace Hotel and soon thereafter collapsed into bed.
